Our Story

Where We Started

A Journey of Faith and Community

In 1980, after graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary, Pastor Marty Berglund and his wife, Laurie, moved to Shamong, NJ in partnership with the Christian and Missionary Alliance to plant a seed - a community of people who don’t just GO to church, but commit themselves to really BE the church – to live out their faith and reflect the love of Jesus Christ through their interactions with one other and with the world around them.
That seed took root and grew rapidly. Within just a few months the church had outgrown Marty and Laurie’s garage and needed to rent space at a school in Medford. Soon they broke ground on their first building…then their second…and third! From that tiny seed of a church plant, Fellowship Alliance Chapel has grown both in numbers, and in its mission to reach people with the Gospel. But that growth has never been about buildings or filling seats on Sunday mornings; it’s about people discovering their identity and purpose in Christ, being built up through God’s Word, and making a Kingdom impact in their communities.

Being the Church

A Call to Action

At Fellowship Alliance Chapel, we believe that to *be* the church means to embody the teachings of Jesus in our daily lives. This involves giving ourselves to Him and His body – the church, reaching out to our neighbors, and sharing the good news of salvation with those who have yet to encounter Christ. Our various ministries and outreach programs are designed to equip and empower our members to understand and experience God more fully, and engage in meaningful service, both locally and globally.

A Community United
in Purpose

Why We Gather

As we gather for worship, we are reminded that we are part of something much larger than ourselves—a movement of believers dedicated to glorifying God and serving others. Each Sunday serves as a reminder that we are called not just to come to church but to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our everyday lives.
