Our Story
Where We Started
A Journey of Faith and Community
In 1980, after graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary, Pastor Marty Berglund and his wife, Laurie, moved to Shamong, NJ in partnership with the Christian and Missionary Alliance to plant a seed - a community of people who don’t just GO to church, but commit themselves to really BE the church – to live out their faith and reflect the love of Jesus Christ through their interactions with one other and with the world around them.
That seed took root and grew rapidly. Within just a few months the church had outgrown Marty and Laurie’s garage and needed to rent space at a school in Medford. Soon they broke ground on their first building…then their second…and third! From that tiny seed of a church plant, Fellowship Alliance Chapel has grown both in numbers, and in its mission to reach people with the Gospel. But that growth has never been about buildings or filling seats on Sunday mornings; it’s about people discovering their identity and purpose in Christ, being built up through God’s Word, and making a Kingdom impact in their communities.
